“We are awaiting or hoping for an other book, a book to come that will transfigure or even rescue the book from the shipwreck that is happening at present.”
-Derrida, The Book to Come
What does a book look like when it is not a book? What does scholarship look like when it is designed to be on the web? This is one attempt to explore that question, to realize what opportunities the network affords us. The digital creates an opening to advance scholarship beyond the manuscript form, to write publicly, to think aloud, to not be limited by the vision of a book.
This site is my ongoing project/writing/thinking, the forward face to my academic research on democracy in the age of the digital network.
The Nodes house the longer critiques in this project, writings on democracy in the age of the digital network. Each node investigates one area of this topic. Most nodes are “chapter length” analysis. Unlike chapters though there is not a distinct linear progression instead one can access the nodes in various orders, and see how they connect to other nodes via the content map. Currently, each node is published using Comment Press, enabling paragraph level conversation about the material.
